Shortly after the liquidation of the former Croatian Physical Society, an initiative was launched to establish a new association of Croatian physicists. By mid-July 2021, 130 physicists had signed a “Declaration of Intent to Establish an Association of Physicists.” On July 16, 2021, a virtual meeting was held with 41 participants, at which it was decided that the preparatory activities for establishing the new association of physicists would be entrusted to an Initial Board. The Board consisted of the following members (listed in alphabetical order, together with the positions they held at the time):
The chief coordinator of activities was prof. dr. sc. Ante Bilušić. The Initial Board held a total of eight virtual meetings. During these meetings, among other matters, the importance of institutional support for the work of the new Society was emphasized.
Following the sixth meeting, proposals for the name, the Statute, the Rules of Procedure of the Council, as well as the logo and coat of arms of the new Society—based on an idea by prof. dr. sc. Denis Sunko—were submitted for public consultation. The results of the public consultation were subsequently discussed by the Initial Board, which finalized the definitive versions of the name, the Statute, the Rules of Procedure of the Council, and the logo and coat of arms. These served as the basis for initiating the legal steps required for the establishment and registration of the Croatian Physical Society, which was officially founded on March 28, 2024.
